E4OD to 5 Speed Manual swap?

I believe my E4OD on my '93 7.5L F350 finally gave it's last breath.

Haven't started diagnosing it yet, but after spending a couple of hours researching countless threads describing E4OD failures, I think mine is toast.

I'll prolly spend some time this weekend doing a few things to determine it's state, but my outlook is pretty grim, kinda like my checking account is right about now.

I know someone with an '89 7.3L diesel F350 with a manual 5 sp tranny. They're looking to get rid of it really cheap.

Will the tranny off the diesel mount up to my 7.5L?

Will I also have to switch over the wiring harness, computer, and all the associated sensors?

I'm sure there are several issues regarding differences between the 7.3D and 7.5FI that I'll have to deal with as well.

Is it worth the headache?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I know it would be better if you had the donor truck available, that way if you needed a specific nut, bolt or bracket, you'd have it right there.

I'm not 100% on the bolt pattern match, but I believe they're the same.

I don't think the computer would be an issue, possibly a connector may have to be swapped.

The driveshaft may have to be swapped, also.

I thought about the same thing when my tranny died, but wound up spending the money for a built E40D. 2 weeks later, a truck came through the salvage yard with everything I needed. When I checked it out, It looked pretty straight forward.

There will be quite a few small parts to switch over, so a donor truck would be better. I think the 7.5L and the diesel have two different bell housings, maybe someone else knows. Ive gone from 4r70w to the m5r2 five speed so its not too difficult.

From my thread searching and reading, the diesel and 460 don't share the same bell housing pattern. It would be better to search for a 460 5spd or a whole truck that is similar in cab and bed to yours with a 460 and 5spd.

Correct. You need one from a gas big block not a diesel.

Here is everything you need to do the swap (this is for a 4x4 but you get the idea):

I found that pic useful when I did my swap.

Where do the clorox and the lawnmower come in?

Yes, they are different bellhousing patterns, and different gear ratios anyway. Even if you could do it, you wouldn't want to use a diesel 5 speed behind a gas motor.

The lawn mower is to cut the grass away from the truck so you can get to it. The Clorox is for later when you light the tires up on the pavement.
