Happy April Fool's Day from Lafayette, LA. Today is recovery day after working yesterday. Tomorrow is another work day, then (in theory) I sit here until I head home on Monday.
It's great to only fly 2 days of the work week, but this is the shift we hate. We operate a shuttle for two oil companies, taking their rig workers down to Mexico, where helicopters take them to the rig. We then take the folks who've been working back home to the States. Departure time on Monday and Friday is 3:30am from Lafayette. Head to Houston, grab a few more passengers, then head to Ciudad del Carmen, MX. We sit down there for 3-10 hours, then reverse the trip. Tuesdays and Thursdays have 4:30am departure times, but since Mexico hasn't changed time yet, we move that to 5:30am. So, my body thinks it's 2am when I'm waking up for work. Blah.
What makes it even better is the friggin weather down here. About half the time I do this run, I'm dodging thunderstorms by 5am. That's not much fun, but ... it pays the bills.
The picture shows the route we fly; it's pretty much the same each way. Flight time is about 2:15. When there's weather over the Gulf, we have to take the shoreline route, which adds 30-40 minutes of flight time. Big as the Gulf is, plenty of the airspace is prohibited because they don't want aircraft flying over the oil fields.
I hope everyone's doing as well as can be.
