My delima. I know im getting a fx4 cuz i cannot get the options i like in the XLT. I wont bump up to Lariat due to the wood grain. So when i get my FX4 can i simply change out the front grill. I looked at the dealer and it looks to be bolted on but im not sure. If not maybe i can swap hoods with someone somewhere.

 

I don't know the answer to your question but wouldn't it be cool if they came out with a chrome package on the FX4?

you can just buy a chrome grill and bolt it on, but its going to be very price if you buy it from the dealer

or just wait till the aftermarket makes soming in the next year or so

 

i dont think the aftermarket grills will include the "grill surround" which is really what gives the lariat and xlt such a nice look. im not into the "color keyed" front end i like that big bold chrome grill in your face kinda look.

 

They should have the same mounting bolts/holes, so I think you should be able to put a XLT or Lariat grille on the FX4, I guess you have to wait until a slightly used take-off grille shows up in the classifieds or on ebay. Otherwise they probably cost big bucks new from the dealer.

 

Or maybe someone would swap with ya? It seems there are a lot of differing opinions about what looks good.

 

Nice if they'd offer a FX4 with a dark chrome option. Like blackened chrome. Fsusion had an option for "dark chrome" last year. Looked great.

 

Just wonder, why would you want the chrome grille, while every other aspect of the FX4 is color keyed? Personally, and this is just me, I dislike when you see the entire truck color matched, but then only the door handles and mirrors and small items have chrome. Think the chrome grille would look out of place with all the other pieces being color matched.

 

i seen a couple on ebay a while back, starting bid was 450 bucks, i thought about getting an XL and buying a crome grill on ebay, but in the end just got the XLT.

 

Post pics if you do this. I have an FX4 and have wondered what the XLT or Lariat grille would look like on there. Keep waiting for something aftermarket to come out to dress it up a little.

And I agree with the other poster on the black chrome idea, the current grille in Black Chrome with matching taillights would look incredible.

 

i see what your sayin and i went back into my f150 book from the dealer and the platinum has a color keyed bumper with a chrome grill. Also the king ranch in this book with the two tone paint has the color bumper with the chrome grill and i personally think they look good.

You and I have similar thoughts. I want the stitched dash, cooled seats, and the fold down arm rest in the back of the super crew that is only found on the Lariat and above. I spoke to my dealer yesterday, and he informed me that I could change out the wood grain (I hate the light wood grain in the lariat) with the inserts that I like (FX4). They can change anything you want, you just have to be willing to pay the price for it.

And yes, you CAN change out the front grill (it happens to be the same size as those on Fords vans.. and people who dont like the black on the vans change to the chrome). It's a part in the 300 dollar range.

 

I totally agree, makes me wonder why they put chrome trim tailights even on FX4, plus only running boards you can get from factory are chrome? (FX4)
If the truck has a monochrome look, w bumpers etc, should keep that going.

hey, I thought of another idea for you. There's a company (CCI) that sells chrome overlay grilles, they stick-on over top of the factory center grille. They make one for the 04-08 FX4 H-bar style grille. You can try to contact them and see if they will be making one for the new 09 FX4 bar grille. I think that would look cool with the painted surround piece of the FX4, and saves the hassle of trying to swap/find another grille.
