Wheels to fit 235/85R16

16x7" wheels are for 235/85-16's and 8" are little bit too wide.
Yeah, you can make 8" work but 7" are a match for the tires.
I tried to buy some aluminum wheels 5-on-5.5 in 16 by 7" and they don't
make them anymore. Steel are all that's available new, last I checked. If
you can find some aluminum ones, let me know! :)

The whole point of a truck tire is to have the sidewall go "straight" up from
the tread and not bulge out sideways like a cushy car tire. My '91 F150 has
car tires on it and my step father ruined two tires (I know of) on dirt roads
and within a week of having it, I poked a hole in the sidewall.
POP-WHOOSH WHOosh whoosh shhoosssssh (done)
Called a neighbor using the cell phone...
"look out your front door :)" ...I was waving at 'im like an idiot. :)
Walked home and got a spare and other stuff that was easier to use than
messing with the stuff on the '91.
You can have my share of -all- the car tires and "too wide" of wheels! :)

I wanted 16x7" wheels for future use ;) and the tire salesmen were trying to
push the 8" because that's what was -easily- available. I wasn't about to live
with 8" wheels for the rest of my sorry life just because it was easier that
minute of that day for them. Antony "without an H ;)" was a good guy and
was just trying to get me some wheels as close to what I wanted, as he could
find without having to special order them, but still 8" are too wide for my needs.
...a lot of dirt road miles with lots of rocks. ;)
Still haven't found aluminum wheels in 5-on-5.5 16x7" let alone with a 4"
back spacing.
Oh well. :)
Steel ones are easy enough to find but many of them are crooked right from
the factory.
BTDT
Antony -without hesitation- took back the one I said was crooked and ordered
me another and said we'd keep doing it until I was happy with what I got.
The very next one was straight as anything. :)

I guess 235/85-16E's will eventually go the way of 16.5's? :/
But at least they ain't like 16.5's in one way...
Back when I was living with 16.5's at work I came up with this...
"if you have a flat at over 30 miles an hour both the tire and wheel are history"
-a generality that was mostly true
When we'd turn the pickups in in 2 to 2+1/2 years those that had 16.5's
was common for only 3 of the five wheels to still be with it. And many of us
carried an extra spare that could get ruined too.
16.5's suck. ;)
Back when the 16's (7.50-16) had tubes, they sucked even harder. :/

How much are you wanting to spend? I bought the Mickey Thompson Classic IIs 16x8 for about $110 each, you can find steelies for about half that..
