74 460 timing question

hello, ive got a 74 460 (i think lincoln motor) in my 57 ford. its just an older stock rebuild, with dual exaust, and a 750 holley vac secondary.

its got a mallory disributor with a separate coil, but no ignition box. just wondering what the timing needs to be set at on this motor, and if anyone knows what i need to do with this dist. to set my base timing. (theres no vaccum advance on it...)

id like the stock timing setting, and if anyone knows what i can bump it up to safely (and barely still get away with running 87 octang if i want), id appreciate it

Set max timing at 32° to 34° and you will be good to go. That's with no vacuum hooked up and at about 3500 to 4000 RPM. After you set the max timing and confirm there is no pinging then check initiial and then you know where to set it next time.
