amp meter gauge ?

The amp meter gauge in my 1976 f-150 hasnt moved ever since I had the truck . On checking with a voltage meter there is 14 volts at the battery with the engine running . Why doesnt the amp meter register this ?
The 1974 f-350 is the same way ?
