Question 2001 F-350 Parking Brake Backing Plate

So I'm changing calipers and rotors on my truck and find that the backing plates are rotted. None of the local stores have the parts (NAPA and CarQuest). So I go to the dealer (I hate going to the dealer, they rip you off). So the parts guy tells me that they are part of an assembly that comes with the caliper bracket, 4 studs, and all of the parking brake parts for $335 each side. Of course the assembly doesn't include the rubber boot where the cable attaches. Is this true? Can anyone direct me to a place to just get the backing plates? Any other suggestions?

Try one of our sponsors. One link is Ford Parts and Motorcraft Parts at Discount Prices Ford Think Parts. This site listed the backing plate for less than $20.00.

i had this exact problem about three months ago. i went to finally fix my parking brake issues and found the plate "badly" rusted. i called many parts places and they all said "dealer item".
my friend at ford gave me the same price you got and also told me its sold as a complete assembly. what a rip.
anyway, i still haven't fixed it. i just don't have an extra $700 for a parking brake right now and when i have had it i can't bring myself to pay $700 when all i need is two metal plates. guess i'm gonna hold out till something good pops up.

I really hate to tell y'all this...but that backing plate you are refering to is ONLY furnished as an assembly....it is not available by itself.

4C3Z2209AA .. Right Rear Brake Assembly

MSRP: $313.88 // FTEpartsguy.com price: $226.00.

4C3Z2210AA .. Left Rear Brake Assembly

MSRP: $313.88 // FTEpartsguy.com price: $226.00.

Fits: 1999/2007 F250/350 Super Duty

If you look at that plate in the illustration section of the 1990/2007 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog, as I just did...it is shown by itself.

But....when you go to the rear brake parts list (#20)...it says it is only furnished as an assembly.

According to rear brake parts list #20 in the 1990/2002 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog, numbers: 6, 7 & 8 are only sold as an assembly (see post #7) along with parking brake shoes, springs and hold down hardware.

There are no individual part numbers for these three parts listed in the parts list. However...they are shown in the illustration section with individual basic part numbers.

But you cannot always go by illustrations in parts catalogs...only when you turn to the text, do you find out what's available.

Two other members in this thread have said their dealers told them the same thing...sold as an assembly only.

I'm retired...not working at a dealer anymore, so I'm not on commission, and ain't gettin' paid a cent from anyone for typing this jazz.

Parts list #20: 1999/2002 F250/350 Super Duty. These assemblies, however, according to Ed's site, fit thru 2007.

Type the part number(s) into his site to see the applications.

I speak with Ed (FTEpartsguy) on the phone several times a week. I'll call him Monday AM and ask him to chime in.

It's possible since I'm using an older catalog...that Ford has broken these assemblies down, so the parts can be bought individually...but don't count on that.

that would be great if you could find that updated info. i went through my situation actually back in october of 2008, so maybe it has been broken down since then, would be nice.
and it is part #5 in the diagram, i know this is a retorical question but why wouldn't they just sell the simple metal plate seperate? this has got to be somewhat common, especially in the north and northeast with its winters.

in the parts diagram the discription says 2wd backing plate. what do ya think, why wouldn't they put 4wd also or do you think thats the differance?

todays been a rollercoaster ride of emotions, first another member has got the same problem as me, then its an easy fix, now i'm back to square one.
i need a drink

this thread is very important to me... i too did my rear brakes calipers and rotors yesterday and noticed the whole Ebrake assembly is shot... back plate is rusted through...

i have a 2003 f250 4x4 with single rear axle

i am very interested to know if the 20$ backing plate furian listed really worked

i am keeping an eye on this thread... i have a big trip coming up soon, i am towing a trailer... i want to have emergency brakes

i will stop by the dealer by me today - and let you know what i find

i also tried napa and other OTC stores and found nothing (dealer item only they say)

keep me and ill keep you all posted

am wondering if that matters... i thought a 10.5 axle is a 10.5 axle

the rears on the trucks i always thought were the same....?
