I wonder if this is only for prefabricated units, or can we show our reciepts of materials used for those of us who built our own? I can do rebates... rebates are good. Tax man???

I'm about to jump on the bandwagon with biodiesel to reduce my costs on our farm. I have a new tractor, 2007 model, that is rated for use with B100 and 2 powerstrokes and one IDI ford. All of them have been running fine on used oil diesel from a Chinese restaurant but Ive since lost that source. They went out of business. Everyone else I talk to wants money to let me take their used cooking oil and that's not going to happen.

Now I'm considering planting a few acres of something that I can press my own oil from. I currently grow alfalfa, Giant bermuda and Blue stem, all for hay. I can't find anything on using them but does anyone have any idea what I could plant to make fuel with that I could safely feed the byproduct to goats and cattle?

I need to get my tax deduction going for this year.

 

Welcome to the biodiesel forum! I grow Canola for my oilseed crop. 100 acres will produce 20,000 gallons. I've also tried Camelina, but the yeald was half of Canola, with the same input costs. Peanut oil will also work, as will Soy. All these oil seeds will produce a feedmeal that will work for cattle or hogs.

 

that kind of stinks, here there is a business that charges $40.00 a pop to pick up oil, so businesses are more than happy to have us take it for free. Can't take anymore, building up faster than can burn it. Need it to warm up so we can run 100%.

 

Sorry guys but when it comes to taxes and rebates I'm illiterate. What does this mean in lamens terms for someone like me? My dad and I have a custom set-up at the farm that we use to fuel our tractors, combine, and trucks. Might make 1 or 2,000 gallons a year.

 

If you have a farm, it looks like that should be able to use the link that fabman posted. Might need a tax man to go through it. My partner and I are not a formal business, so it looks like we are out of luck...

 

Look under the instructions. It says you can deduct 30% up to the $1,000 limit for HOME USE.

I wouldn't do it if they gave me free taxes. I believe they are just trying to get our name on a list so that one day when they ban homebrewing they know who to check first. They will start like this, then one day realize people aren't paying road taxes on it, in which case they will go berserk, there will be bio fuel checks(just like red fuel checks). Nothing in the world would make me register my fuel processor with the government.

Thats a good point Andy...never thought of that.

I would love to make a WVO system, I even have a 250 gal. aluminum milk tank that has refrigerant lines (that I hope I can change to hot water lines). But there's alot of other things on the TO-DO list that are more important.

ahhh...if only I could figure out how to grow that damn money tree.....
