commecercially used registered trucks still have to have them today even.
i have many sets of these from many different trucks ive parted over the years, mostly GM ones though.
in the attic
all have tin boxes,
rectangle shape,
most gray colored.
common thing to find
but getting less each year
good luck

Brian,
You asked the other day about any stampings on mine. I looked and they have
the following. On the plastic reflector it has " grotelite " on the top and "1100" on the bottom.
On the steel bracket holding the reflectors it has " Grote 70 " stamped near the top.
Was hoping I had found something rare, but as others have stated, it must be a common item.

Flags and Flares
When I was a kid I remember the old timers talking about making sure that they had there Flags and Flares for state inspection. Here in Pa. they are required to be carried in trucks for safety. When I bought a new F250 in 74 the dealer included them with the deal. Nowadays I think there requried in 10,000 lbs and up. Use to have to have them for pickups- jeeps scouts anything with a truck license on it.

yes her ein IL its only in commercially used/registered 10000 lb and up
and in which case a fire extinguisher and flares also need to be in the truck
also special license plates for ovr 8,000lb-26,000lb or so have to be on the truck as well
not sure why thye consider over 8000lb to be commercial
when so many private entities own and drive duallies and even some 3/4 tons over 8000 exist commonly especially in the 70s and 80s and before, many were 8200lb from factory and also 8500 commonly as well.
dumb...
but then i dont think we will ever understand the government and its screwed up laws and regs

I've got here in my hands my NOS set. On the box end is part number B6C-18286-A Reflector Flare Kit All Trucks. It has three metal framed reflectors in a gold anodized finish. Each reflector has two round plastic reflector disk stacked one over the other. Molded in the plastic is "Stimsonite A^G^A NO.12A" Each one also has a two piece wire rod with a coil spring in the middle and a small red cotton flag that measures 11 1/2" X 11 1/2" square. On the bottom of the base is Ford in oval and the following Reflector-Flare Model A Meets I.C.C. AAMVA Req. UL logo "Before using flare wipe lenses clean. Set flare on highway so lenses directly face oncoming traffic". So there you have it, probably more than you wanted to know. What I would like to know is where were they mounted in the cab in 1956?

Like has been said here before, the jack and tools and now the reflectors were, had no real place for them. The 48-52 had a screw to hold the jack in place. 53-56 did not....
