Okay guys, I need some answers. I don't own a Lightning, but a friend of a friend does.

The rumors that I am hearing from this guy say that his brand new, totally stock Lightning is running 12.8's in the quarter mile and dyno'ing at 400HP at the wheels (Not at the crank, at the wheels).

He is claiming this is done with no modification whatsoever done to the car. No race gas, no slicks, no engine mods, no nothing.

I have great respect for the Lightning, and would actually kill to have one myself, but I am very skeptical of his claims.

I am coming to you guys, becuase you would know far better than I what these trucks are capable of. Any thoughts or input?

He's blowing smoke. The Lightning is rated at 380 HP.

 

Ken's right. They're quick trucks, but not that quick. Mine is a 99, and rated at 360 horse.

 

Hey Steve, Ken is right, the '01, and '02 is rated at 380HP and 450 ft/lb of torque. They run the 1/4 in 13.9....no way close too 12's.

 

Okay guys, we might get this settled yet...

I am now hearing that he lowers the pressure in his rear tires to get the 12.8 quarter mile time... How much do you think this would effect his time?

He's full of crap, there is no way he is running a 12.8 with just taking air out of the tires, a stock '01 and '02 Lightning runs the quarter mile in 13.9. Is he using the factory installed Goodyear F1-GS unidirectional tires? Or did he put on slicks? Slicks could give him a faster time, but he still won't run a 12.8 with a stock Lightning. He is telling you a bunch of BS!!

 

IF he is claiming 400 HP at the wheel, ask to see the dyno sheet. Chances are that he doesn't have one because he never dynoed it. He is making numbers up. For the 12 seconds, I bet he is guessing a ¼ mile on some side street and timing it whith his watch.

 

Ask for his time slip, you will probably see that he ran at
"the Wizard of OZ dragstrip":-X23

 

I frequent the local dragstrip and I have heard two people say that they are getting 400 horse at the wheels with just a chip! They are running high twelves. Your friend is full of it though. You just ain't gettin a 1.1 second improvement by dropping tire pressure in radials.
