Not exactly a highway drive going from 2500-6000 elevation which would put you under load for the climb. And one doesn't get it much of it back going down hill either.

True, true. But it still seems very low to me, considering I went pretty easy on it. Even in the flats, it still felt like I could watch the fuel needle drop. I can see 15 or 16 for some climbs and stuff, but that's near 351 mileage.

3.00 rear end and 2000 RPMs @ 80mph!
Higher elevations don't help and it is troublesome to change jets for a short road trip. I got 18.4 on the round trip to Riggins and back with the two big hills to climb. The demarcation point between performance and mpg can be somewhat illusive as it tends to move depending on the infinite variables encountered.
