How much is the current owner asking for it? Have you checked all normal places for rust? Have you done a thorough check of vehicle?
As far as worth goes, how much are you willing to spend on this truck?
I know it's not much help but that's kinda the bottom line.

get a 65 or 66. You will be much happier in the long run. 64 is a red headed step child. Do some searches on this site on disc brakes, motor mounts, etc....

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it..and IMO, 2 grand is waaay too much.

The tailgate is missing...good luck finding a decent original, they've been obsolete since 9/1966, when Ford replaced it with the 1967 (1967/72) tailgate...which is also very hard to find.

No alternators until 1965.

It's gonna need a lot more than "a little bodywork."

If the cab mounts are bad, you can bet the cab mounts are rusted away to nothing, which also prolly means that the core support mounts have rusted away.

Rust will also be likely found in the cab corners, rocker panels, floor pan...look under the floor mat.

If undercoating is present be aware that this substance has been used for years to hide the sins.

I wouldn't give 200 dollars for this cob.

The 1961/64 models, while they look similar to 1965/66's, have leaf springs front/rear and drive and ride like an ox cart.

Sorry to be so direct, but you asked for opinions, and I gave you mine.

I've been familiar with these trucks since they were brand new, and having owned 327 vehicles, I know what the cost factors to fix this truck will be.

Whatever you estimate it's gonna cost to make it the way you want it...double the figure...then add 10%.

It depends on where you live. Looking at the background of the photos I'd say you're in the rust belt. In California that truck is worthless, but in the rust zone and far away from rust free areas it's actually worth something. Just my opinion.

I think $2k is still high. If I wanted to buy it I'd hope to pay under $1k, and I'm brave when it comes to rust repair. However, I'm also a little older and I forget that prices have gone up somewhat. It's hard to buy much that runs and drives for under $1k now a days.

I'd still try to get it for less.

Also, I don't know much about the year issues, but if these guys say to buy a later vehicle, I'm sure they're right. If you're patient and keep looking you might find a more solid example for around $2k.

paid 5 bills for mine, runs really good and has an FE transplant. Needed king pins, one hub, turn signal switch, and a generator - did the brakes head to toe just to save face. 9 bills later I'm awaiting a rubber grommet from John'sfun100's John's F-Fun Hundreds-Home to get the new fuel fill hose installed and her into weekly use so the 66 can undergo the works. I think 2000 is way too much for that unit. I have a 64 and it has a brand new high performance 460 and a C6 with some nice chrome steelies and I paid 2000CAD but it wouldn't have paid anymore for it. I think there are other good trucks out there, if it didn't have the motor I would have passed on it as like Drof46 said 65 and 66 are better and I agree. I did a frame swap to a 75 but if I was to do it again I would do a Crown vic swap. But in the end if it works for you and your dart is pretty beat than ya do it.

Mr Bill---are you sure that alternators were not offered before 1965?? I thought that they were a rarely seen option from Ford starting around 1961 on the F100.

My Ford F series Shop Manual for 1960 shows Leece Neville 50 amp and 100amp alternators. The manual doesnt make it clear on what truck size these were offered.

I thought that I have seen option list for 1961 F100s that included 50 amp alternators as expensive options. I have never seen one of these original alternators on a truck. My memory may be faulty.

First Ford product with a standard equipment alternator: 1963 Thunderbird.

1965: Alternators became standard equipment on everything.

Prior to 1965, the Leece-Neville alternators were an option on trucks, but one rarely saw them when they were new, they're even scarcer today.

Prolly 99.5% of the 1961/64 F100/350's had either 30, 35 or 45 amp generators.

I should by now know better than to question your statements. Questioning one of your statements is like questioning ol' Henry himself.

You were correct, and I was not.

I should have mentioned the optional Leece-Neville alternators, instead of blanket typing that no alternators were available until 1965.

However...I still wouldn't give two cents for that ratty old truck....if it has an alternator....or not!

I believe that you meant to type " no alternators as standard equipment on trucks" when you stated "no alternators" before 65.

That 64 F100 isnt worth two cents??

What do you think of that 62 F100 longwheel base UNI on Ebay?? It is kind of expensive--but it is original or new OEM (excepting the seatcover) and has many new OEM parts already installed.
