96 F150 4x4 towing capability

Could someone please verify my towing capability? I bought it used and ofcourse owners manual is history.

My truck is a 96 F150, 4x4 EXT cab, 300/6, 5spd, 3.55 gears. What can it tow?

If I upgrade to 4.10 gears what could it tow?

Thanks for the info...

Without Tow package and Heavy Duty Cooling 3.55 gears = 2,000 lbs.

With Tow Package and HD cooling 3.55 gears = 4,000 lbs.

Without T-Package and HD Cooling PLUS 4.10 gears = 2,000 lbs.

With T-Package and HD Cooling Plus 4.10 gears = 5,800 lbs.

Do you have the owners guide? My 95 guide says a F150 4x4 Supercab with 4.9L, 5 speed and 3.55 with the proper equipment has a GCW rating of 7,800 pounds. Subtract your truck weight, cargo, passengers, fuel, etc from that and you get the trailer weight. The 4.9L was not available with 4.10 axle, so there is no GCW listed. Ball park estimate would be another 500 pounds. Remember GCW is based on more than axle, it includes, suspension, brakes, etc.

Gents: Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure it has the tow package. My plan is to purchase a 22 foot cruiser boat that weighs in at 3500lbs. Speed is as not as important as torque so I will upgrade to 4.10 gears and at worst case maybe a zf trans if I have to. Then again maybe an F250? I'll let the F150 take a try first... My 96 is in excellent condition with 79,000 miles.

My 1996 F-150 with T-package and 3.55's towed a 3800 pound boat no problem on a weekly basis. You will do fine.
