Passive security system blinking light

I just purchased a 'previously owned' 2006 Ford Ranger. The PATS light on the dash blinks constantly when I lock and leave the vehicle. Is this normal? Will it run the battery charge down?

Thanks, LilRinn1019 and cracked block, for your very welcome response. I don't know why I didn't notice this before... I bought the used truck a couple of weeks ago... Now, I can relax. You were very helpful! Ciao! Selwoc
