Has anyone heard of this kind of crack before?

My friend has a 2000 Ranger that has a cracked frame near the forward side of the right rear leaf spring. It appears to have cracked at an oval on the bottom side of the frame and goes all the way up to the top of the C-channel but does not go through the top side. The truck is just a daily driver. I'm wondering if anyone has experieced this before. I have never seen this. Are there any TSB's for this? Any possibility of a fix? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

"Any possibility of a fix?"

Find a skilled weldor/fabricator to stop drill, weld, and probably reinforce the area.
