Pics, revelations, and a ?...my all-in-one thread....

The pics.........

Freshly bought, still at my friends house, with for sale sign still in it....

Home beside the mildly lifted dodge.....

Dash pad and seat cover removed.....

Current state (for the last 2 years or so )

The revelation......

VIN says 67, grill says 72, steering wheel says 67-70, side markers on bed say 70-72, hood emblem says F-100.....I've concluded its a 70 F-100 on a 67 F-250 frame...

Specs are 300-6, granny low 4-speed, divorced t-case, closed knuckle D44 front, D60 rear, manual drum brakes, manual steering. I did put on a 1-ton booster and new front brakes, and have started the floor board and other repairs......2 or so years ago.....what happened was one of the fingers on the pressure plate broke off, so plowing with no clutch and no power steering was.....no fun. And then I found a core support and inner fenders from a 79 in really awesome-o shape, so I tore the front of the truck off and found a ton of rust up in that biatch, so here we are. Most of it has been replaced, but now I need more metal and a new welder.....so some day soon....

And the question.....

Since the 460 wasn't around when this truck was, how hard is it to fit one in? I've read here and there the oil pan causes problems, custom mounts are needed, and exhaust manifolds hit the pass. side frame...

I figured I can cut and weld in either the 300 or 460 towers, and that would allow me to have the motor a tad higher if needed to clear the exhaust, and give more room for the oil pan.

Anyone done this and know how to do it right or can share some details about the problem area? An 85 460 and C6 2wd tranny are what's going in, one way or another......

Thanks!!!

the PO of my truck (70 F350) did put a 460 in but it was a 1977 engine, and had all those problems you talked about. the headers are less then an inch from the frame. he used Darkhorse Engineering headers, and i have had no problems. i dont know what engine mounts he used but i can snap a picture or 2 if you would like. the pan is also very close to my crossmember, but my truck is a 2wd so we have different crossmembers.

Yeah, if you don't mind!! That would give me a good idea of what I'm getting into....Thanks!!

Probably the headers go in before the motor? Less than an inch does not sound fun!!

there is room on the motor side (i think...) just not of the frame side. give me a few mins. so my camara is in a car that is not here, so when it gets back, in the afternoon i will snap a few. you can also try to look and see if i have any in my photobucket account, http://s319.photobucket.com/albums/m...Ford%20Trucks/ i just dont really know what is in there anymore.

ok here you go, sorry it took so long...

it is a very big motor, and is a tight fit, but if you built custom headers you could bring them in closser to the engine and away from the frame, also there is a tab on my frame that could be ground down so that the headers clear the frame by even more...

Oh my my my!!!

Wow!!

Definately glad the truck is stripped from the firewall forward....

That explains why Ford never offered that as an option!!!

Thanks a ton!!!

the only thing that i know is different is your front crossmemeber, i dont know how this engine will sit in relation to yours. but my engine mounts are just bolted down to the frame and crossmember so i am sure that you could made some spacers for them to get it up an inch or so....good luck!

The 460 swap is very doable we did several on the 67-72 F250 4x4 trucks.you need to locate The Frame towers for a FE engine bolt them to the frame get a set of FE block mounts and modify them to fit the 460 block alot cheaper than the custom stuff like L&L but if money is not a problem then by all means go with the custom stuff. Just my 2 cents.
