Exclamation Help with Tach install.

I did a search and found in a post to hook the signal wire for the tach to the yellow / tan wire coming from the coil. I did this and nothing. I also did a search for a wiring diagram for behind the radio and couldnt find one. The PO installed a stereo and did not use an adapter he cut all the wires. Any help???
Thanks.
I can post picks if needed.

Do you have the rest of the tach wired correctly? You will need a power source and a ground in addition to the tach signal for it to work. You can (but don't have to) have the fourth wire hooked to a power source for the back light. I usually just twist the wire for the light and the 12v power for the tach together and leave the light on all the time.

Also make sure you are using the correct wire from the tach to the tach signal.

I'll go outside in a bit and see what color the wire is on my truck that I have the tachometer hooked to.

I understand, what color is the neg.? The post I found said it was the yellow / tan.
I am confirming the rest of the wiring now but it sucks with out a diagram. I tied the power and ground into the radio power (ACC) and the ground in. I will change the ground and test it again. Do you need the light to test I have not found A spot to tie that in and tested without it.
Thanks for the input.

I just looked at my truck and the wire you are connected to in the photo is the same one I have my tach hooked to. I'd start looking at the rest of the wiring. I wouldn't use the radio ground - go to a good ground somewhere under the dash. Also, for power, make sure you get switched power, not something that is always hot.

The tach wire that is for the light can be twisted together with the power wire as long as you don't want to dim the light with the dash lights. I wired the one in my truck right to the dimmer for the dash lights. Works nicely and wasn't too bad to do.

Glad you got it up and running. I like where you put your. I was going to use that location except the P.O. used it to install some switches for lights that aren't on the truck any more.....I mounted mine to the side of the steering column.

Nitramjr thanks for the help. Here it is all buttoned up.

I really need a new instrument cover but there are other things I want worse. Glued it all up and its one piece again. I would have felt bad if I cut up a pristine piece but I had nothing to lose. The tach was free, I would have purchased one that mounted a little different.

That's a nice looking install on the tach......you just need to move the shift indicator up by another 1000 rpm or so....

What is tacky about it? I think it is a great place for the tach. Nothing obstructed, it is in the line of site and no wires showing. I like it better than where I put mine (on the column),

Let's see a picture of your aftermarket tach install for comparison.
