How much does a

Last year I bought a used 1990 Coachmen truck camper (slides in bed). Within seconds I realized that it was way too heavy for my F150. I added springs, etc, to bring it up to the "very dangerous, but will roll downhill" level. I am selling the camper, and was wondering what the thing really did weigh. It's 11.5 feet long (hangs over the rear about 2-3 feet), and hangs over the cab a good distance as well. It has a bath, stove, microwave, oak cabinet doors, and a jacuzzi (OK, so it doesn't have a jacuzzi). Anyone have one like this that knows the weight?
When you see the construction (foam panels with light plywood), it is hard to imagine it weighing anything. A 4x8 panel weighs about ten pounds. However, somewhere they put some lead panels in there, because my truck groans like there was a herd of elephants in the rear.
It was a cool camper, though. Any guesses?
Thanks.

How much does a "cabover" style camper weigh?

I don't know the weight of that model, but I'm guessing that it weighs at least 1 ton. That's quite a bit of weight to be putting in a 1/2 ton pickup.

At least a ton.

Lance's 1025 "lite" weights in at about 2,500 lbs dry and are only 10 ft long.

In any case it's way too much weight for a 1/2-ton truck.

How much does a "cabover" style camper weigh?

Thanks for the estimates. I imagine that it is well over a ton, and that's why it's for sale...

How much does a "cabover" style camper weigh?

I'm guessing more like 1.5 tons fully loaded and then some. I don't know of any camper MFG. that makes a 11.5' camper in a Lite model.
Also when listing weights most camper MFG.s only show the weight of the unit without options included. Electric jacks, dual batteries, generators, etc. can increase the weight considerably. Deen

How much does a "cabover" style camper weigh?

I have not found a traditional cabover camper on the market that will not overload an F-150. Even the eight foot Lance "Lite" is 2200 fully equipped, leaving no margin for things like gasoline or someone to drive it.

Folding units are the answer. I have a "Four Wheel" eight foot cabover that is 965, including options. Water, propane, ice, food, driver, dogs, kids, etc all have to be added to the empty weight.

How much does a "cabover" style camper weigh?

According to Lance's website, their heaviest model is the 1161 and is a 11' 11" camper with a slide-out. It has a dry weight of 3495. The disclaimer at the bottom of the page reads: "* Dry Weights are based on standard features and do not include options or equipment packages."

Given this info, I'd bet that you are only pushing 1.5 tons since you don't have a slideout and that is my guess with it fully loaded. I could be wrong, but the Lance 1130 that is 11' 6" without a slide out is rated at 2900lbs dry weight. So, you load it up and you are around (give or take a few hundred lbs) 1.5tons.

This is all just a guess.
