I put a new set of tires on the SD today. The so called cheap china specials from two years ago were about gone at 18,000 miles and I didn't want to go into the Fall with them still on the truck.
I gave up on trying to do the axle swap on the SDand have arranged to have it done. It looks like just too much heavy stuff and too many possibilities for failure. If I could afford to have the truck laid up for a week or two I might try it, but will pay to have it done as time is important at this point.
I wrote checks today for a bunch of stuff on the SD to finish all the stuff that has been done. New tires last week, purchases axle a couple of weeks ago, had the axle installed yesterday with new u-bolts, brake lines, ball joints and a couple of seals on the axle, front end aligned today, oil and filter change this past weekend, now I'm broke and tired even though I only did a small part of it myself. Oh, I forgot, I pulled the diff cover and checked the gears for wear and replaced the gear oil and painted the replacement axle. At least one part of the old truck ought to be in good shape.
