ground clearance

ok, i know that most lightning owners wouldn't be concernd with this issue but i like to take my truck of road a lil bit(to the river and such) well i can't take a lowerd truck to the river, it just won't make it, but i was thinking of gettin a lightning by the end of this school year, if i put some old 15" tires(mud grips on the back) will a lightning susp. hold up to a lil bit o beating, or would it be wiser to put a lightning drivetrain into my truck?(i'm talking about a 1st gen lightning.) anyways i know i sound crazy cause i wanna take it off road but it is something i like to do(but i don't need 4x4) my only other option is to mod my lil 302 and put gears in it.

I don't know about the Gen I Lightning, but you won't be able to fit 15 inch rims on the rears of the Gen 2 Lightnings because it won't clear the rear calipers.
