Roof rust!!!
Hi Guys,
Sorry, I previously posted this into the wrong forum list, so here it is again for those of you who noted it in the 61-79 list.
I have a 1979 Ford F150 4X4 that has a rust problem along the length of the roof seam which runs from the top rear corner of the left drivers door opening and on around to the upper left corner of the rear window opening. I can't yet push a sharp tool thru it but it is very crusty. This seems to me an unusual place to form rust, not having seen it in this location before. Is there a drain hole below it which could be plugged and not draining properly. There is no indication of rust on the other side on this same seam, in fact there is no other rust anywhere on this truck that I know of. Any suggestions on how to repair this damage after the source of this rust is found and corrected? Thanks for any and all help out there.

Roof rust!!!
Have a similar prob with my '70 F100. Seems (seams) that it was hit before I got in '82 and one of the windshield posts has crack. Me thinks that, ovewr the years, water entered at this point and pooled over top of the windshield (inside the cab) and door posts. When I pulled the head liner out, I noticed all kinds o' interior rust. Just a thought.

Roof rust!!!
Paul,
It could be one of several problems.
#1. Check the seams that run across the top of each rear cab corner. They should be filled with seam sealer. They were originally, but with time it dries & cracks loose from the vibration. Eventually, some falls out leaving holes for water to enter.
#2. If it has a rear exterior cab lamp, check the condition of the seal. They tend to do the same.
#3. Check the rain drip rails. The bottom should be seam sealed as well.
#4. If it has a sunroof....................................
...................................buy a raincoat!:7
Hope this helps.
