maybe I'm missing something, but why?

if you keep the transfer case in 2HI it's the same thing. is the transfer case bad?

Since this truck has a "married" transfer case setup, you would not be able to take out the t-case and connect a driveshaft to it unless you could find some sort of adapter. You could just drop out the front driveshaft and leave the t-case in there, or you would have to get a 2 wheel drive transmission.

Until I saw what you were doing with the truck I was like "why the hell would someone do that?" But it makes since for a desert truck.

its not terribly difficult. If its an auto you would need a 2wd tail housing and if its manual youll need a whole new trans/or you can rebuild with a 2wd output shaft and tail housing. The frame and just about everything else is the same.

If he does do it, i would defiantly be interested in some parts. And depending on the drive terrain he wants we may be able to swap. If hes interested in getting rid of the parts.

A little more info about the truck and intended use would be vary helpful.

Good luck with it.

Yes the 2wd front suspension has the same bolt on locations as the 4x4.

The coil springs are about 2 inches shorter on the 2wd. The spring buckets that support the top of the coil springs are the same.

The radius arms are different on a 2wd and 4x4 but use the same rear frame bracket mounts.

The transmission rear support bracket is 3 pieces bolted together. The driver side small bracket that goes from the frame to the center transmission support is the same for a 2wd and 4x4. The other two brackets are different.

The difference between a m5r2 2wd and 4x4 transmission is the rear tail shaft housing and the length of the output shaft.

The drive shafts are also different.
