Took it up a couple days ago and had tailpipes ran out in front of the rear tires.
Got the longer wheel studs today so got them pressed into the axles and test fit the slicks on it and I really like the look of the bigger tires on this car.

Thats just one cool looking full size car, the fastback makes it. The bigger tires really sets it off. Whats reall cool about it, is that it's different, keep it going buddy!!!!

dig this thread back up. I have made a few changes but nothing real serious except the tracloc wasn't working right so put in a spool, and I got a hood scoop for it as well as changed from a vac secondary carb to a QFT double pumper.

Well i did go on sunday, still have some things to dial in and work on but first pass was a 9.009, did some jet changes and got it down to a 8.912 @ 77.49mph, did another jet change but mess up shifting so didn't get a good pass in to determine if it helped or not so guess I will check it out next weekend.

If thats 1/4 mile times, dont do anything else to the car, it will slow it down

I am assuming those a 1/8 times also. I am wondering, on the floor boards, when wire brushing, do you have a dremel? I use a dremel 395 multipro. It has variable speeds between 5K and 35K RPM and works very well with a wire brush attachment it has. It works much faster and is much easier to use than a wire brush. Also, unless you are using a small wire brush, this thing will be much more precise. Just want to throw that out there. The car is a nice car to build on, it's got a nice body, and it doesn't seem to be too bad, just needs a little work.

Yep 1/8th mile times. I think I need to get a little more gear into it and definitely need more stall, I hope to get it down into the lower 8s by the end of the year, maybe into the 7s before I get around to building a big block.

Brian, I don't have a dremel I use a die grinder for everything like that. But my wifes kid has a sand blaster that I might use this next winter.

Here is a couple more pics of this build

First with the new hood scoop and the hood stripped down and primered.

And here is the new setup rear I put under it, used some of my stuff out of the old Ranger diff like the carrier and Alum daytona pinion support.

And the new carb that was put on since I quit worrying about street manners

I wish my dad knew something about cars, it would be so nice to have a mentor. That looks amazing by the way, when you do get times and do more, please keep us informed.

it was just an open 2.75:1 standard case gear setup. I had put a tracloc into it, but with the slicks it wouldn't always lock up good so went with the spool.

2.75:1??

if i tried running that in my 7 litre, i would either twist the driveshaft out of it, or blow the clutch before i got it moving!

it is hard enough to drive with the 3.25:1 9 3/8 ring gear in it now.
but on the bright side, with a 750 rpm idle, it's at 25 mph in first gear.
i never had it flat out, but did have it over 158mph and i was not running full throttle.
i never got an exact speed, because the radar that we were using got fuzzy after 150, and dropped out completely at 160+. it did show a solid 158 mph as i was approaching the radar car before it dropped out though

You guys see that article a while back in Hot Rod. The guy with the 66 Fairlane station wagon. He ran a 390 in the 10's. Not stroked! That station wagon cant way much more than his galaxie! Your car is awesome! I just sold my 66 Fairlane and the guy sent me pics of it painted. I wanted to cry! Now I am looking for a 2wd shortbed to make fast. Looks like you need to replace the pass side rear quarter huh? I do body work and paint as a hobby now. Your frame looks fine, some day you should have it sandblasted. That car would be clean!

Ran it yesterday, did a little more tuning and managed a 8.823 @ 77.8mph (1/8th mile). Wife video taped it but for some reason when I transfer it to the computor to upload the quality is really poor but here is a couple vids anyway just excuse the quality.
