Your need for additive will depend more on the fuel you purchase than on the engine. I burn Cenex RoadmasterXL premium fuel when close to home. It, for instance, is not helped at all by an additive.
If you're used to the 7.3, be prepared for an increase in fuel consumption due to the EPA restrictions on the 6.4.

Mine runs great. Lower MPG is a fact for these due to EPA! But I do not use any additives in mine and get along great.
I would think that depends on where you live and buy your fuel. So far I like mine. So if you are thinking about it, stay away from anything build come Jan 2010. That is when the new EPA standards are to take effect and will be even more of a problem.

The 6.4 is an awesome beast of an engine. I agree with all that was said above. I love my 6.4 but I only have 6300 miles on mine. No problems yet however, I do tote 15K to 16K just about every time she pulls out of the drive.
Fuel mileage would be my only complaint at this time. It is about 2 miles per gallon less than my 2006 6.0L equivilant truck.
Also there is an initial lag on the power when starting from a stop due to the emission crap. However, you get used to it and it is not that noticable once you aquire a feel for how the truck gets going.
Despite the mileage I could not ask for a more comfortable, solid, stable, well handling ride toting 16K. I have plenty of power and the ride is incredible.

Nothing, just drive and let it do its thing. It'll be a little louder and use a bit more fuel but that's it. There's plenty of info of this to be found through the search function.
