Bedliner On Exterior Body Panels

Bedliner On Exterior Body Panels
I just postponed an appointment I had to get Bedliner applied to the lower portion of the body panels on my truck. I was sure that it was a good idea to prevent stone chips and therefore rust. Then I went and read a thread where Karljay and others said that bedliner is too porous to prevent rust and could even trap moisture.
Would it be helpful to apply the bedliner if the paint underneath is still good?
Should I just forget this altogether?
I am getting tired of fixing stone chips and was hoping that this would be an end to that.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If the paint underneath is good, I'd say yes. I'd look VERY carefully at the paint, sometimes you get rust underneath paint that's very hard to spot. If you can, look at the backside of the panels for any rust and maybe poke it with a screwdriver to see if it will flake off.
I like the idea of bedliners on the outside on the lower body parts.
As a side note, I bought a used hood in cherry condition. Sanded down the stone chips and found rust under each one of them. Not a problem, but you need to examine each scratch and stone chip and treat the rust first.
