Spray guns???

If you haven't sprayed in a while, you'll find that the old conventional guns are being discontinued and are 'not for use in California' The new types are HVLP and I've heard that it's harder to get the same finish as the older styles.

I'm painting my truck now, and I'm using the $25 el-cheapo from harbor freight. It's actually working pretty well, I've had problems with moisture in the line and not cleaning the gun properly, but that was all my fault.

If you want to spend a little cash, I'd get a conventional (non-hvlp) gravity feed or a conventional seperate bucket type. They cost more, but it's nice to be able to move around more. As for the brand, I've heard good things about Finishline.

By the way, I understand that the new HVLP requires all special equipment, not just compressor & gun, but special equipment.

Spray guns???

Thanks for the info Karl....I did get a chance to use the HVLP system back about 8 or 9 years ago...I didn't like it...of course,I didn't spend a lot of time with it.

I guess I should have stated...that I have a small 1/2 pint gun that I use for re finishing guitars..(which I spray with Laquer)...but I haven't had a full size gun for a very long time...I will look into the finishline..

can you recomend any good sources?

Thanks again Karl

Spray guns???

I've been following this board for a while, and it seems to have some excellent people there. They sell a bunch of stuff and are ready with good answers. Keep in mind, the I tend to be cheap when it comes to tools that I only use once every 8 years, but that's just me. I paid $24 for my paint gun, and the outcome was very good and I'm happy with it.

The owner of this site, Len, is very attentive of the board and gives excellent advice.
