I have too agree with both parts there... I was young and "Crazy" at that part of my life and maybe still have some Rebel in me...But my spyder handled Great!! and it sat lower to the ground than the Vdubs....and was much more aerodynamic by far!!
And as commented on..you can test the best vehicle out there...and with a camera and a attitude, you can make a Denzo Ferrari look like chit...showing it hitting a freeway overpass at 210mph....and claiming it has bad steering at that speed!! and all it really is , Is driver error!!
The only complaint I had about my Spyder was the Turbo oil line...They should have had a seperate oil filter inline for the turbo bearings... I finnally got smart after the first rebuild...and put another Filter inline to the Turbo...Because they would trash bearings in a heart beat !
I remember Picking up my Dad one night from the Airport ..and sitting there at a light..another corvair pulled up at the light...same year...and I really couldnt hear the motor all that well...But it seemed to have a good size bump stick in it ? Well I found out in a heart beat....
The light changed green....and away we went with the other corvair out in front of me by a car length at the other side of the cross walk... I said to my Dad "DAMN"... So I flagged him over...and of course wanted to know what was in it? Well an early 350 LT1..LOL... Thank god it wasnt for money ...As at that time in my life thats what I raced for... Never had the Kahona's to race for pinks...But making $8 hr at that time in my life as a machinist...and making $500 on a good Friday and Saturday night..Made life real nice..

Not sure what year they fixed the "tuck under" issue, '63-4??? I think the later body style is still one of the best looking cars ever made, especially if you consider what it is--a Chevy (economy brand) economy car.
I was out in the desert years ago--Burro Bend, some will know where that is....Anyway, my buddy & I hear this strange engine note, and then we see a Baja Bug rolling up. I went over and looked and I spy a little plate that says "Rochester turbocharger". He had a Corvair turbo motor, with no muffler after the turbo. He got two noise tickets on the way out to the dez, but it ran great....
Well, this thread strayed faaar from the original discussion, but fans of the SOHC will find the August '09 Hot Rod mag, now on newstands, has a complete build up. Pond block, Bill Coons heads. Hilborn injection mod'd to efi. 800 hp at 7200 rpm. Everybody should have one.
Not only that, and this pertains to the OP who was also talking Boss 429, page 44 has a '75 Ranchero with a Boss 604. 870 HP, 822 lb-ft. Purists will cringe and decry the desecration of this Ranchero because it's tailgate is welded shut, the bed is cluttered with tubs, NOS bottles & a fuel cell, it has "weak" IRS, and horror of horrors, a Chevalay transmission. Plus it had a perfectly good 400 in it to begin with, which he should have built instead.

What IRS is it?

Kugel, with a Currie 9-inch center section and Detroit Locker.
"Larger custom halfshafts were built after Mike Miller (car owner) twisted the chrome off the original 'shafts during the first testdrive." says the caption showing the unit under the truck.
One rear tire on this thing puts more rubber on the road than all 4 of the OEM tires.....
$21,192 (if I'm adding right) plus $2000 in machine work so $23,192 to build it. Now this is the best of the best, billet crank, Crower rods etc.... 504" and 800hp. I need to win lotto.
I know Russ just got a brand new 427 cammer engine the other day.... Must be nice bud.

Nice article in HotRod. Parts list seemed to leacve out crank and rods, but it looks upwards of $25K. A high price for an engine that was never in a factory car. So anything you put it in would no longer be stock (or look stock). But I still want one!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since we're picking nits here, it actually has 3 cams
That third "cam" is really just an oil pump drive though, correct?
