Marmon-Herrington Woodie Dreaming
#16
Kevin - Is that the time he butchered a '49-'51 shoebox woodie? I recall hearing that'd he'd done that, but never watched the show and don't remember what abuse he did to it.
Probably the most well know 4x4 woodie is this IH R140 that was sold at auction a year or two ago. Sold for like $150,000 or some such number. IIRC it was one of three originally made by Campbell on the R140 4x4 chassis. Stu

I'm sure it is still tucked away, along with the third installment of those triplets. Yes, I think that was the one. I've not inquired about the price. Just waiting til I could swing it.

If you go back home and check on them, please let me know what you find. Do I remember correctly that one had lost its front axle somewhere along the line? I have my spare that might make it a complete truck again. Please keep me in mind.
Scott - A KB 2 would be a perfect platform to use as a donor for such a project. Problem would be, same as with a Ford, getting the patterns for the wood and all of the special fasteners/brackets/window tracts that are today made of "unobtainium". Stu

There is a KB1 that shows up on the 'bay every so often. I think it is listed at $55,000 or thereabouts. What about finding a Marmon Herrington IHC KB1 or KB2. I know M-H converted some prewar IHCs for the Coast Guard, not sure about post war. It is conceivable that some were woodies.

I have a 125" KB2 where the topside of the cab was crushed (tree fell at PO's house), has a good rear window, and no bed. The other KB2 has the rear window section cut out, so it needs to be grafted into one good cab anyway. I'll have the other cab-half left over, so I thought, why not finish cutting it, and make my own version of a Campbell? May not be perfectly period correct, but would be cool nonetheless to me. It would be 2wd, though. (The pickup will have to be done first) I'm still searching for that elusive M&H within my price range, lol. I have plans on a different 4x4 too, but I won't say anything until I get started on it. All in due time.
But if you guys find a good M&H platform to start with, I would say it would be a worthy attempt to make a Campbell.
(I forgot to mention the one KB2 has an under frame gas tank already)
