Toyota power box conversion

Just curous about a couple of details.
Do you run power steering fluid to match the pump, or toyota fluid to match the box?
What's the story on Pressure? GM pumps can run 1350 PSI or more, Ford (mustang) pumps run about 750? What did the original Toyota pumps put out? Anyone tweaked their pressure to make the steering a little "heavy"?

Bump.

I don't have the answer, but am interested in the discussion: my '56 will have a Ford/Dodge combo.

Toyota power steering uses Dexron II or III ATF.

I have no idea whether generic PS fluid, Mercon and Dexron are interchangeable. Perhaps someone with lube credentials can pipe up.

Short of that, I'd listen to someone who has a goodly number of miles on a mixed-breed conversion.

I'm thinking along he same lines. My unit has power steering fluid in it, but I believe the old GM pump could use ATF as an alternate, and it might be better for the box. Also the steering is a bit light. In past R&P conversions I have used the Borgeson shim kit to reduce pump pressure so the rack wasn't so twitchy. Wondered if anyone has experimented with it on the toyota box.

I have a stock Chevy pump feeding my Toyota box. No Problems at all. Have several thousand miles on it now. Do not use ATF fluid. It will work, but it will cause the seals to go out quicker. I am using generic power steering fluid in it.
