Engine bay small ground strap?

Hey all

I just found this loose. One end anchors right above the heater hoses on the firewall.

Where does the loose end go?

What is its purpose?

Mine is broken in half and the end on the hood is riveted on.

My underhood light works. I don't really see what it does.

Simply maintains the ground field throughout the truck. By continuing the ground through the hood the ground field is connected across every metal point of contact that the hood makes... hinges, springs, latch are all points of contact for the hood an this spreads the ground across the body of the truck more evenly. Keep in mind that the more points of contact you have with the grounding field the more efficient the electrical system will be. You only have wires to deal with when concerns about resistance come up on the positive side of the circuit but on the negative side you have the entire body and frame of the vehicle.
