I have a 2001 EX. The door ajar light stays on and all the doors are shut. Even when you drive away the light still stays on for a few. This past weekend it started flickering, alarm would go off, and eventually killed the battery with the interior lights staying on. We just came home from Indiana and while driving the door ajar light would come on and off, luckily the interior lights wouldn't. Any idea what may cause this?

 

If I remember right the door ajar system is triggered by the door latches. Might need to troubleshoot which one's defective. I have found usually it's the rear hatch.

 

I have had my rear hatch door cause a low battery because my daughter used it for leverage to stand on the bumper. Make sure it is shut. If it is shut I would start trouble shooting that latch.

 

I have had this same problem also in the past. Over time the sensors in the latches can build up with dirt and oil. I used contact cleaner from Radio Shack and cue tips to clean out the latches and then sprayed them with WD40. This solved the problem that I had with the interior lights staying on and draining the batteries. It has been 6 months and no reappearance of this problem.

 

It seem's everytime i have a door ajar situation it's 99.999% the rear hatch.

 

I have had the same problem. Liberal doses of WD40 applied to the switch usually cure it. For some strange reason mine is normally the drivers door.

 

I had the problem a few months ago, the guys here were very helpful. My problem came from the front drivers door. I was instructed to spray it down serveral times with penetrating oil. After 5 different times of spraying the latch with oil, it finally fixed the problem. After that I sprayed ther rest of my doors and haven't had a problem since. Try that out, it may take a couple of days but it should work.

Excellent advice here. Thank you! Based upon the advice here, I started working through each door, 1 by 1. I immediately knew which door it was once I lubed it, and upon closing it the interior dome light went out.

What appeared to work very well was WD-40 sprayed into the door lock's latch, opening and closing the door 5 times, and then spraying it with graphite lube to the final (lasting) lubrication.

 

Which door was it?

 

It's weird... My doors will all cause the interior lights to come on and the chime to ding.

My hatch will not. I've left the Door Ajar light on for WEEKS without a dead battery because I've been too lazy to give the hatch a nudge.

 

I experimented last week with my '05 , the door ajar light isn't on with the ignition key removed (off) even with doors open.
I already knew, after ~15 minutes of door being open, interior lights (running board too) go off. But, opening another door restarts 15 min timer. Hence, an intermittent door ajar sensor issue WILL kill the batteries.

 

The rear passenger side door. However, later that evening the problem came back, which tells me I need to use more lube (repeatedly, as other fellows have described in this thread).

 

I'm wondering if the black female sockets which are located at each of the vehicle's door frames, and receive the door 'nubs' when closed, play some role in this issue. These sockets have inside of them what appear to be metal clips which close in contact with one another while the door is open. They could be ground loop switches which become interrupted when the door is closed. Thoughts?

 

Where is the switch? In the hinge or on the door itself?

I sprayed a liberal amount of wd40 in the latch mechanism and it cured my issue.
