Question 1955 - 1956 Ford Fan Shrould

I have a question, I was looking on ebay for any ford related auctons for a 1956 Ford. Well I found a 1953 - 1956 radiator shrould, I was wondering would this shrould fit a 1956 ford passengercar such as a fairlane? I know they might not but this one looks like it might and I am curious about this because the cars did not have fan shroulds.

If anyone can answer this I would appreciate it, would give me the option of restoring the car with a truck shrould for a factory appearance over a aftermarket chrome one. Thanks in advance.

I seriously doubt it...just my guess though.

Do you have measurements on the fairlaine radiator for comparison?

My shroud is 21 x 24'' from a 272 yblock in a 1956 F series truck.

I dont have measurements wont be able to get them till sunday, but I do have two Ford Part numbers on the radiator.

B6A 8005-H Fairlane Extra Cooling
B6A 8005-G Fairlane Standard Cooling.

I havent got into the details on if the engine has the heavy duty radiator or the standard radiator but looking at my diagrams it looks like it would fit I am just not sure.

Was curious about it cause I know having a fan shrould would really help pull more air through the radiator than around it.

I am how ever looking oline to see if any sites selling replacement radiators gives the size, will post the dimensions if I find them online.

Did the 56's all come original with fan shrouds or just the v-8's? Because I took the fan shroud off of my old pontiac once, and it overheated like a **** every time I drove it until I put it back on. But my truck doesn't have one and I'm afraid it'll overheat(even though my dad said he never had any cooling problems).

thank you.

As far as I know I have never seen a 1956 Ford vehicle with a fan shrould from the factory. That was until I saw a fan shrould online for a truck of the same year. I know the cars never came with them, they had rubber seals that fit against the hood so when driving air is forced through the radiator more. I would like to put a fan shrould on my car to improve the cooling efficency (never had a overheating problem in the car that I know of) and it would also protect from putting your hands in the way of the spinning mechanical fan. I know if you want one you can get universal fit ones from JC Whitney but I am doing a factory restoration and the ford truck one if it would fit I think would look more factory than a chrome one.

Odds are though your vehicle shouldnt overheat without a fanshrould while driving but if you spend alot of time sitting in traffic it could since the fan could possibly pull air from around the radiator than through it. But the fan on my car sits very close to the radiator I havent got a chance to pull the engine to clean it up and go through it before starting it but it might be close enough that air would still be pulled through the radiator regardless.

Okay this is a long time coming but I got measurements of the radiator.

The radiator width excluding the mounting flanges is exactly 19 1/4" in width.

The height from the bottom of the bottom tank to the top of the top tank is roughly 24".

So Walford'56 with your fan shrould from your truck being 21" x 24" it looks like the truck and car used the same size radiator so the fan shrould should fit.

I did get one other measurement. The diameter of the fan and that is roughly 17 3/4". I forgot to take my tape measure so I was using a 1ft ruler and it might be off alittle might be 17 1/2" or it could be 18" even.

But I am doing an update in my other post on the 292 estimated condition cause I found out some stuff so if anyone is interested take a look.

V-8's and 6 bangers both had fan shrouds. the 6 cylander shroud is not as deep as the v-8 since the 6 cyl engine is a lot longer and the front sits closer to the radiator.

I have not seen a 56 Fullsize with a factory fan shrould. Every one I seen never had one. Mine never had never had one either. Didnt have one because they had this rubber seal like the weather striping on your doors along the top radiator support that seals against the hood. When driving it tends to force the air only through the radiator. But who knows maybe it was a option you paid for. I just know this car doesnt have one and I doubt the previous owner would have not got a replacement.

But I saw one on ebay for a trck (didnt know the trucks even had them) but was thinking that would be an option if the thing didnt cool that well.
