2006 Lariat Instrument Cluster -> 2004 XL Truck?

I know someone who is selling a 2006 Lariat Cluster, he had it in a XLT and I was wondering if it would work in my XL? Any mods or problems I will have to do for this to work?

I am going to go on a limb and say I think it will not work. I believe they are totally different animals.

Well, since no one knew.. i just tried to install it. It bolted right in with no problems and everything worked ..... Except the biggie... the A/C didn't work.. Now I do not know why the cluster had something to do with this, but the a/c would not engage. Everything else worked.. so I guess i'm stuck with my XL gauges. Anyone know a way around this??

the clusters are a plug n' play for the most part.

you must visit a dealer and have the odometer reset, and to enable the tach and other gauges that the XL cluster did not have.

You can slap a Lariat Cluster in there if you wanted to...just gotta pay the Dealer to enable the different functions the Lariat cluster has over the XL cluster.

not sure why the A/C is messed up...are you sure the XLT cluster is okay...and not messed up?

Actually, everything on the cluster did work. The tach, speedo, temp..etc.. The only thing that didn't really work was the information center, but since the XL doesn't have those sensors such as outside temp and compass I would'nt expect it to work. When I tried to turn my A/C on, it didnt work and so I put it back to stock. I will call a dealer and ask them what they can do.. otherwise its not a big deal

oh, I thought you had an XLT cluster...I should read a bit more clearly I guess

You can buy the sensors and the compass if you want to have the message center work. not to sure if your XL has all the wiring already in place or not though.

does your XL cluster have a TACH already?

normally the Dealership has to enable all the stuff via the vehicles CAN OBD-II system. wierd

The dealer can program the cluster for the a/c to work.Usually 1/2 hr shop charge

Post your results after the trip to the dealer and share with us the outcome and the charge.

Yeah I'd be interested to hear what happens with that. I just cant see why the cluster would effect the a/c ?

Did you check other things, like door ajar, lights on warning, key in switch warning, and interior lights? These items quit working on my STX with a FX4 cluster. I just bought a Lariat cluster and was wondering. I can live w/o the info center. Did you check w/ Ford and see if the Lariat cluster can be programmed for all features to work?
On the FX4 the A/C will work.
