There is no stock EGT sensor, so you still have to drill and install one.

No, but DashBoss can. I saw your other post and hope Josh comes along. Do a Google search on DashBoss and you'll find it...

I have had this truck awhile.. 6.0L D Excursion..

The autometer Pyro is the probe under a hose clamp on the turbo outlet.. The pyro quit working recently.

Should I buy the AutoMeter 5249 replacement and tap the manifold, or should I buy the 5247 replacement probe for double the cost.. It only lasted 2 yrs..

thanks in advance.. I do only light towing, and the motor is bullet proofed but otherwise stock with a mild street tune.

I put a pyrometer in each manifold. For me its a huge benefit to see what each side is doing. I can tell if an injector starts over fueling or if I see the deltas get to far out of whack I know I need to have the injectors checked.

I have also been experimenting with Archoil in the oil and adding 2-stroke oil to the fuel mix, when I see the exhaust temps match almost exactly is when I know it is running at its best. I can honestly say I seen these 2 experiments make a difference. I use to run a delta of 40 to 50f and now I'm within 10f.

I had an injector over fuel a cylinder and take my last motor out, real peace of mind being able to monitor both sides.

OBD2 monitors, i.e. scangauge, only monitor what the PCM is reading. The PCM does not read EGT. The only way to monitor EGT is with a probe. Scangauge does not have a port for an EGT probe. I have Dashboss and it does have the capability to add probes/sensors to monitor two additional PIDs. I currently have the EGT probe plugged into my Dashboss for one of the additional PIDs. Eventually I will add a Fuel pressure probe for that as well, in the other one.

Not sure about any of the other OBD2 monitors that are on the market, some may have this capability too I dunno. But I do know that Scangauge does not. I hope this helps.

Actually not a bad idea.. I recall years ago that our detroit diesel's had twin Pryo's for the same reason.. we could spot problems early.

For now, I can't find the replacement probe for less than 150$.. It has a small boss and a cone shape to be pressed into the hole drilled under the clamp. with short leads.. its funny, I call automater and they don't have a replacement for it.. I will pull it off and get a pic..

I have the Bully Dog Monitor and bought the accessory probe kit. Don't think it was much over $100. The monitoring system works pretty good I don't use the bully dog tunes, I run one of Matt's tunes. I can set the monitor to flag high EGT's or oil temps.
