IDM Mod Done With Pics...

Finally got around to doing the IDM mod with pics, all I can say is I do feel a diff on the lower end for sure... I cant say exactly how much but you can feel and hear it... I wish I had the access to dyno before and after

pic one of IDM 120 I used two small screwdrivers and a utility knike to get the lid off, once you get it started it comes right off....

Pic after cover removed

Pic of 6042 to be replaced:

Pic after removing 6042, I used an awl and gently tapped on 6042 to break it apart as sugusted by Ziggy worked great and left the solder joints intact;

pic of 73.2k ohm .5w resistor

I bent two small legs on the bottom of resistor to ensure a solid solder point on the board..

Pic after soldered to board:

I used Hot glue to glue the resistor to the side of ??the big green thing??

I used clear industrial RTV to seal it up, let it sit over night

Then went over the whole outside with a bead of clear RTV and let it dry before reinstaling

I hope these pics help out anyone else that is going to do this mod, I know there have been and are other writeups but I figured I would post my results

It is always nice to see pictures when a mod is done. Good pictures.

I am still not sure exactly what this does though, to the engine I mean. I read this IDM Mod but it doesn't really explain what it does to help the PSD to perform better (if "better" is the proper word for it).

Thank you sir.

Can this be done with any set of mods or are certain mods recommended to do this (or not do this)?

We deal with a wholesale electrical/electronics store so I might check to see if they have these certain resisitors (I know they have MANY types/sizes).

Yes it can be done with any set of mods, however the less mods you have, the more difference it makes.

For the question about exactly what it does, in reference to the 3 diff model of idm's(100, 110, 120) these model numbers is the amount of voltage each injector receives from the idm causing it to fire. I.E. 100 IDM sends 100v to the injectors.
The idm mod steps up this voltage to around 140v, which causes the injector soleniod to actuate a little faster(quicker throttle response) I had read somewhere once that stock it takes like 530us, the 140 idm mod causes this actuation time to drop to around 420us or so I think.
However if you have a 100 or 110 model IDM you will notice more of a difference from stock than you will with a 120 IDM.

Here are the resistors you will need for the different IDM models, incase anyone wanted to know what exactly to order.
100 and 110---75.0k Ohm (75,000 ohm) 1/2 watt 1% tolerance Metal Film resistor
120--73.2k Ohm (73,200) 1/2 watt 1% tolerance Metal Film resistor

BTW Bergerson, glad to see everything went well, and glad you like the difference
