well I got up this am fired up the truck early to warm up, colder then heck here!! and I had an aweful whining noise after checking it out I was dry on power steering fluid so fortunately i had some filled it up and headed to work figuring the pump went. got home tonight and started digging and it looks like its leaking out the bottom of the steering gear box? never seen this before so what in the world do i do with this mess? it is an 01 f150 7700 series 5.4 any ideas? is there packing in there or what? thanks

 

sounds like the pitman arm seal is leaking anybody ever do this?

 

Here is a source with price for seal kit however if you have the money (who does) I would replace the entire box.
