Granted, I don't like being cursed, but at the same time, I'm really thick skinned and I just ignore it. Having said that, I have found over the years that if you treat the people you deal with the same way you'd like to be treated, you get a lot further. I don't curse at anyone I'm dealing with. When you start doing that, you quickly find yourself on a sinking ship. You get a lot less information than you would have otherwise.

It stinks that this guy treated you that way and as you have found out already, this isn't the "norm". People like that tend to give us a black eye we don't collectively deserve. To your point about him making you second guess wanting to be a cop. Don't let it deter you if it's something you really want to do. After all, you've found out from this experience that this isn't the way to treat people. It should make you more willing to become a cop just to try to right some of the wrongs like this.

For what it's worth, I've chewed some butts over things like this in my time. It wasn't any of my folks but officers from different shifts whose supervisor was off, leaving it in my lap to supervise the shift.

I guess my point is, regardless of whether or not what you did was illegal in your state, he didn't need to talk to you that way. Unless you're doing something to deliberately obstruct him, you're assaulting him, or have given him some other reason to arrest you, what you said without cursing would not be grounds for arresting you here in VA...I don't know about FL though.
Good advice John. Rep you when they let me.

You're going to laugh, but I have always been interested in a career in law enforcement. One of the things that has kept me from going that route is the schedule. Not that I mind working irregular hours, I just don't know if my body's clock will do it. I am not a night person, at all....My body falls asleep at midnight whether I want it to or not. When you are dealing with firearms, automobiles, and dangerous individuals, thats probably not the greatest idea. Although, I'd probably learn to deal with it.

Ooooo...any possibility of putting a few extra hundred towards the mortgage to get it knocked off a little quicker?

Hey Caleb, what part of Fl are you in? No emissions checks, here in Alabama, and Tristan is right about the lift laws, If it will fit under the lowest bridge in your county(CB anteneas removed of course), then its legal.

Im thinking 2-5 years with a "bubba-ette" to take "special care" of your ex is in order!

Good Morning Lisa! Well, my hair's so high and tight, I can dry off with a napkin after a shower.

The shift work is crappy. On the weeks I'm on nightshift, even on my off days, I stay in the same schedule - stay up all night and sleep during the day. We work a three on, two off, two on, three off, two on, two off schedule. Confusing to say the least. If I tried to turn around and sleep at night on my off days, I'd be even more screwed up than I already am. It's a great job though and I enjoy it.

I never did get why some places have goofy assed shifts like that. Some people are day people, some are night, some like working weekends, some weekdays. Why not make the shifts that way?!

I guess the nights thing started back just after high school. My first full-time job was straight midnight shift 11-7. Between then and now, I've always worked some variation of a swingshift with the exception of '90-'92 when I worked straight dayshift. I could tell a difference in how I felt. For the past six months, I've been on straight days and have felt better than I have in years. Unfortunately, I go back to swingshift in June.

Not I! I usually do some of my best work in the early morning hours. I think I got used to it in college. Not to mention my work downloads at midnight each day and I have to map the routes out and print all the paperwork. I go to bed, wake up and Im ready for work around 11am!
