Modular,SOHC?
Can someone explain what this means? This is what the vin# Letter L Is telling Me what My engine is I get the EFI part. Just not what the modular means and the SOHC means Is This a good engine?
I have been reading some of the posts and for the most part everybody likes the engine Some say a little under powered( I think for what I use My truck for there is more than enough) Maybe I am getting old.
Does anyone have an answer and or an opinion on this

Ditto what dkf said. Plus, although the modular engines are lower on horsepower in some people's books, I feel they more than make up for that in torque and the actual torque curve itself. Having a high horsepower engine isn't always the most desireable quality in a truck. I had the 5.4 in a 1999 F-150 and it was a fantastic engine. It pulled very well and I loaded the truck and trailer full of mulch and pulled heavy on a regular basis. The truck always had plenty of power.

Ya know I had the over head cam part Just could not figure the s part. My taurus has dual over head cam. Boy do I feel dumb. Do I have the three valves I hear some people talk about the 3 valve engine.
Thanks for helping out on this. I am not use to such new vehicles My first 2 fords were 76 f100 and 78 f100 both 302 carborated engines.
