Paul Harvey was a guy that had his head screwed on straight. He made broadcasting an honorable profession which sad to say is no longer true. I'm not surprised to read the news that he has passed on because I have been listening to him since I was a kid and I'm not a spring chicken myself anymore. RIP Paul Harvey...it is time indeed for you to enjoy "the rest of the story".

I remember watching his TV appearances in the 60s. Then later listening to his radio commentaries beginning in the 70s while living at the Mine. It made some long, hot or cold days up there more enjoyable.
Paul's broadcast style made you think he was talking to you personally, like an old friend with such a comfortable sound it gave. He always had great insight and, when others were reporting dreary news at best....he would find a different or brighter side that put everything in perspective. (Only 7% unemployment reported? Why not remember to mention the 93% are employed?)
His son, Paul Jr., has a similar vocal cadence and timpre that would make a transition a bit easier (but not quite as deep as his father's). I understand Paul Jr. helped his father find many of news bits and pieces used. Also the stories.
So the "rest of the story" will continue. And "page 2" will be turned to reveal "page 3, 4" and more".
But I will certainly miss those tones....and his insightful wisdom.

I started listening to Paul Harvey in 1982 when I was 16 and listened every chance I got until the Boston news radio station took him off the air a few years ago to save a few bucks.....I still haven't forgiven 'BZ for that. So much so that I pretty much quit listening to that station.
Any time I traveled I would try to find the local station that carried him.
I couldn't listen too much the last few years but it still sucks knowing he's not out there any more. He will certainly be missed.

I, myself found him to be a "Will Rogers" type of fellow. I lstened to him a lot of the time, especially when I was on the road. He always had a funny story for the end of the show, But 1 very special thing about Mr. Harvey was,,, He NEVER was profane like some other so called news people!
He may have said "Good Day" to us, but I think he's saying "Hello" to his ULIMATE Fan!
See You on your next broadcast Mr.Harvey!

One of my favorite parts of his broadcast was where he would announce couples that were celebrating 60, 70, and sometimes more, years of marriage. He really knew what made our country strong and sought to keep it in the public eye. I also enjoyed his coverage each summer of the Great American Race and thought how fun that would be to drive an old antique coast to coast. I think of Americana and I think of Paul Harvey.
