So, I changed my air filter yesterday.

Unfortunately, forgot to reconnect the Mass Air Flow connector before starting the engine. The Check Engine light and the "limp-mode" wrench lamp quickly came on to alert me that I had forgotten something. I reconnected the sensor and the wrench lamp went out but the check engine lamp is still on.

Am I going to need to get the lamp reset at the dealer? The manual indicates that the OBD-II sytem will clear some errors after 3 cold start cycles of driving the vehicle in mixed city/highway. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

 

Did you try disconnecting the battery for 5-10 minutes?

 

I was going to suggest disconnecting the battery too. Maybe 20 minutes.

 

Depending on how that particular sensor is coded, something like that usually will go away after 3-5 key cycles of the ignition. The Batt trick works on soft codes that don't store, but hard codes will stay usually until the ECM sees the correct information after a certian number of key cycles or the hard code gets stored until it is cleared by a code scanner.

 

I avoided disconnecting the battery because I was curious whether the light would clear on it's own.

Good news:

After the 3rd morning of cold starting the vehicle, the Check Engine light went out.
