It's located between the transmission and engine....you cannot miss it...under the truck.

Well I went and looked in that location and I do not have the external filter, my build date is 06/07 which I believe is a job 1 truck but I guess with it being so close to the job 2 build date I got a tranny with the internal filter which I here does a better job. is that true.

Manual says part number FT-175 or FT-176. Must depend on job # or something like that. The manual doesnt specify why there are 2 numbers listed.

Just looked under my truck and I sure dont see the filter anywhere. 2 lines from the trans. 1 goes to radiator and the other to the cooler. I followed the lines and it appears they go straight there with no breaks in the line anywhere. Only part I couldnt see 100% was where the lines passed by the motor mounts but I cant imagine a filter being there anyway.

I seen that on mine but didn't think it was a filter,so you must disconnect the lines on both ends and replace unit?

My truck definitely does NOT have that on it. So let the investigation begin.... which trucks have it and which dont? Is it only Job 1 trucks? Part of a package?

Early Job 1's have a remote filter / trans pan screen setup, but that was phased out in favor of a high efficiency in pan filter setup...

It is only on early Job 1 trucks. It only filters 10% or less of the fluid when it is up to temp and is bypassed when the fluid is below temp. There is a "screen" inside the pan that filters the oil too. The later (Job 1) trucks got an improved internal filter and deeper pan which filters 100% all the time. The is some discussion right now on if a early truck can be converted to the improved filter design on other sites. I was told that the new filter would not fit into an early (style) trans. Someone has tested the flow and pressure before and after with the early set up and the new set up and there is no difference. He has converted his trans over to the more efficient filter set up and removed the canister filter. Hope it is ok to post a link... it is good info!
