Rough downshift

While crusing in my 09 Screw,Lariat at about 60mph, if I step on it a little, causing it to downshift, it is rough sometimes. It sort of clunks into a lower gear and then takes off. It doesn't do this all the time just occassionally. Could it be a shift out of a electric over drive and then into a lower gear, say 4th? Should I be making an appointment with my service dept?

I would, after spending the bucks it should be right. My truck is just as smooth as it can be thru all the speeds. Much smoother then my traded Dodge. Chris

My '09 Lariat often has trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd when its cold in the morning. It either over revs and up shifts hard or it clunks when going from 2nd to 1st. Again, the problem is only happening when cold but it is happens frequently.
I am waiting to hear if any service bulletins come out regarding a re-flash of the TCM.

mowmow, I think what you're feeling is just the transmissions technology kicking in. It's giving that firm shift to help heat up the transmission and also prevent it from slipping. It's a good thing that it does that in reality. It sends that extra tranny fluid through there.

Since your truck is still new, it's a good idea to take it to the dealer to be safe. I don't know how long you plan to keep your truck, but if you wait until your warranty runs out and your tranny gets worse, well, you know the deal.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Fords 6spd trannys. Us 07 and 08 Expedition owners have been dealing with similar symptoms for a while. They keep updating the PCM and TCM software and this seems to help some of us.
