Quieter with 2 stroke oil

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I couldn't hear any difference after putting 32 oz of TC W3 in the tank. Well my truck has been parked for two weeks and when I started it up and let it warm up in the driveway for a few minutes I thought there was something wrong with it when I came back outside because it sounded "weak." I remembered I put the 2 stroke oil in and stopped thinking "what's wrong with it now?" It is definitely quite a bit quieter at idle now. I really noticed it while ordering at the drive thru window b/c I didn't have to shut it off. It's nice when you can tell that something actually works and it's not wishful thinking.

I am on my second tank and I agree. It seems to quiet it down quite a bit. I am currently using some quicksilver that I have had in the boat shed for a while but will buy walmart or tsc brand when I run out. I only put about 20 oz per fill up so it is just less than 1 oz per gallon.

I'm another who just started using it a couple tanks ago. I wasn't sure at first, but about 250-300 miles into the first tank, I noticed something different. I was going through a BK drive-thru and realized I didn't have to shut off the engine to order. That's when it hit me that it really is quieter.

Why is this oil making the engine quieter? I have never heard of this.

I currently use Diesel Kleen every fill up but I want to try the no ash 2 stroke oil next fill up. Do I use the 2 stroke oil IN PLACE of the Diesel Kleen or should I use both???

Diesel kleen is also a cetane booster and 2 stroke oil is not. I use 2 cycle and Motorcraft cetane booster which I get in gallon cans.

I've seen most people use about an ounce of 2 stroke oil per gallon of fuel.... how many ounces of cetane booster do you add during a fill-up?? and where do you get it? dealer? thanks

I'm on my 4th tank with 2cycle oil. It is quieter and I've noticed a side benefit of slightly more power while towing (14k). Will be keeping a closer tab on power/mileage for the next few tanks.

I've been using Valvoline 2cycle oil, I hate Walmart besides it 20mi. away.

Since I read someone did this, a few months back I started to "mix my own" fuel additive. It's 1 part 2 cycle oil , 1 part DieselKleen and 1 part used and strained motor oil. Mix it in a gallon jar, and I add 1 quart of it in every tank, and really happy with the results. The truck is quieter for sure ( my wife can't tell when I pull up to the driveway ), and I'd say that it's smoother while driving.

Be careful on the used motor oil, unless it is used "ashless" oil. For regular motor oil, take a look at some "Used Oil Analysis" and you will see LOTS of calcium and/or magnesium, as well as zinc and phosphorous (and this doesn't even include the wear metals that EVERYONE has - like iron). This will create soot and particles after combustion. Personally I think the used oil addition is a BIG no-no!

Negative Side Affects???

So there has been lots of talk about the purported benefits of adding TCW3 oil to our fuel... a little quieter, extra lubrication of injectors.

I'm interested in trying this (want my quiet engine back:-)) but skeptical of adding oil to my fuel - Yes I know diesel is an oily fuel anyway but should we be adding more?

I also understand TCW3 oil is made to be burned - but in a diesel its not burned at the same temp or rate it is in a spark fired gasoline engine.... Seems there might be more potential for unwanted deposits???

So my question, are there any known negative side affects?

I am also interested in quieting my 6.0 down a bit and in hearing the answers to the questions posed by vellingapa. Additionally, can anyone give any specific recommendations of 2 stroke oils to use and where can they be purchased? I am not familiar with "ashless" oil...

Thanks
Dave

Here are your choices:

NMMA - 2008 TCW3 CERTIFIED OILS

Most folks use the Wal Mart Suoer Tech due to price. Ppersonally, I am also trying to decide how helpful this might be.
