C4 Thingy!!

C4 Thingy!!
Please excuse my extensive use of highly technical terms but I have a problem with the C4 installed in my '50 F-1. I have a transmission fluid leak coming out of the "Thingy" on the top of my tranny shaft housing. The "Thingy" looks like a fitting with a "floating cover" on it. The fluid leaks out of the tranny at that point.

I agree it is either overfilled and/or overheating.
What you can do is check the fluid level and if it's overfilled by quite a bit, drain some out.
If it isn't overfilled, it's overheating for some reason, so check to see if your transcooler is getting enough air to it and not clogged or line kinked.
The last thing you can do if all else is good, and it seems to shift and run properly, is to connect a catch can to the overflow vent.
We had this issue on my teammates race truck with his race built C4. As he went through the traps and the load was no longer on the trans, it would "puke" fluid out under the truck and onto the track (under the tires...EEK!).
We put a fitting into the vent hole and connected a hose from that fitting up to a spare radiator overflow bottle that was mounted in the bed. From then on it would "puke" a little into this over flow, so we would watch the fluid level in the trans and empty the overflow every so often.
It isn't uncommon with high horsepower fully built C4's, but I doubt this is your problem.

No 1964/81 Lincoln ever used a C4! / No 1968/76, 1980/81 T-Bird did either / Neither did 1975/77 LTD's.
The C4 will be found in cars with 200/250 I-6's / 260/289/302's / Some 351C's and 351W's, but not in LTD's.
Some 1964/79 F100/250's with 223 (1964) 240/300 I-6's / 1969/77 F100/150 302's / Some 1978/79 F100/150's with 302's / Some 1980/83 F100's with 300's.
The C5 applications are even more incorrect.
Aerostars used A4LD's, as did Rangers & Bronco II's / 1982/86 Bird's and Cougars used AOD.
btw: 1983/86 LTD's are not the same car as a Crown Vic, neither is the Marquis the same car as a Grand Marquis. These are midsized cars.
