I did the VB as well as a tune, have extra clutch packs installed...I did them all at once, so it is hard to say what did what, but under 50% throttle, it shifts fairly soft, over 50% it will shake the hood when it shifts..all I can say is it works now, hard to say what is doing it however...

I have the Factory Tech valve body and like it so far. Seems to hold the gear alittle longer (maybe I just have my foot in it more) but need to tow car and trailer to really see how I like it.

I am not sure what mine is, but it works. I haul many different trailers and it does great. I can also run it from 35 to what ever in OD...not ***** footin it either. Sure if I matt it, it will downshift, but the norm is it doesn't unless forced. Tranny temps stay at 115-125 all day long.

Has anyone seen an mpg boost with a tune and y-pipe? I have an 01 with the eBay ypipe and wondered if it was worth it to get a tuner. Thanks

Chris60,

I believe we have the same year trucks. I also have the Superchips 1715 tuner . Did you notice an improvement in towing power with your ebay Y pipe? Also do you have any other mods? My truck is a 99 with 4:30's.

Thanks

Ok so I'll be skipping out on the valve body and keeping a few extra bucks in my pocket.

yes, I did, it is easier to maintain speed up a grade, less pedal. I still have not decided if I will try the 1715 tuner in tow mode, with 90 octane. If it pings, I guess I can set it back.

Hey Mike, sorry I haven't called you back about the tune. Been going through alot of money really fast on repairs. I still really wanna do this but money may be a constraint now.

My truck must be one of a kind or something because I bought a ebay y-pipe and I cant stand it. I think it lost low end tq also. I have been looking for a stock 99 ram horn y-pipe ever since and havent found one yet.

Are you sure you lost low end? I just ordered a FM 70 and a ebay Y. According to the Dyno runs it looks like it made gains on the low end.
That is definitely not what I wanted to hear.

Im not saying this to make anybody p***** off or anything maybe my truck is one of a kind but I didnt notice any performance gains at all and Im positive I lost low end TQ. And the sound, it sounded like a old tractor so I added a FM 70 and it queited it down some but still sounded bad. I just want a 99 y-pipe back.

When I first started mine it sounded like cr*p also. You sure you don't have a leak at the manifold? Once I got my headers to sit flat to the head (header tube was hitting a boss on the head) it almost sounds stock.
