I did the later and glad I did. Messy job but worth it. The magnet had 2-3 tablespoons of metallic goo around it and I guessed the filter had goo in it too. Shift points and down shifts improved greatly as a result. Remember to get the old gasket out when you pull the filter if it is not on the filter neck.

definatly put new fluid and filter in there. also pull the tranny codes.

on a side note double check your axle gear ratio. 3.08's werent installed on a bronco with a 302.

Stock gearing for a 93 with a 302 (5.0) is 3.55 with 4.11's having been an option. And 33's with 3.08's????! OMG! Does the E4OD EVER get into overdrive? I mistakenly ran 33's with 3.55's in my 92 for a while... tranny spent more time hunting for the right gear than I spend hunting for Bronco answers!

I ran My old Bronco on 35's for awile with 3.55's. It would even look at a hill in overdrive. The AOD bernt up the first gear in about a year. I guess 33's would last a little longer.

do the gears first so you save the rest of the drivetrain from undue strain. if your planning on running 35's be sure to gear for that.

So, Kem, you are @ 2200-2400/70mph with 4.88's in OD? Makes me wonder if I should consider going taller than 4.11's with 33/34's. Guess I need to research the ratios in the M5 first and see how they compare with the E4OD.
