Clean 1 owner 51 F3 w/ 48 express bed

Found this F-3 farm truck today, looks like it has the 48 49 long bed on it. to bad they beat the hell out of this truck, and the bed is rusted out pretty good down low. I'm going to ask if they might be interested in selling it to me? mostly just for usable parts, Flathead V8 (if its still in it?) grill, hood and hood trim, maybe the passenger side door and fender, and the cab? I was thinking maybe the value would be price of scrap + a little??? what do you think.

Pretty beat up, but fairly "clean" old parts, are better than none at all.......especially 51-52 parts!.......here is a perfect example of why we all need unlimited $$$ and time as well, to keep rescuing all of them that we can!!

well, I dont have unlimited funds or time but sometimes you just have to keep your priorities straight.. cheaper than buying them (parts) individually though. thats a lotta dents...

"I was thinking maybe the value would be price of scrap + a little??? " BUT I saw one just like it on TV auction sell for 50,000 !!!!! Only needs a little work to be like that one was.. Guy in my area mentioned that to me about one in about the same shape.
Good luck

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it, if that. Not too many useable parts left.

As for the bed, I don't think that Ford changed the style of the bed on F2-F3 trucks. I had a 52 F3 with the same bed as this one.

Yeah, on the F-2's and F-3's they used the same 8ft "Express Bed" from 48-52, the bedsides didn't change in 51 like the F-1's did (going from raised bedsides and round bottom stake pockets in 48-50 to flat bedsides in 51-52 with square stake pockets)

As far as price, up here in Michigan finding any truck this age that isn't rusted apart is tough, dents can usually be repaired and the F-2/3 parts are getting hard to come by, especially beds and running boards. I might go as high as $500 for truck like that since it does have salvagable parts

You guys are both wrong! Well, maybe not. I bought a F-2/F-3 box that was being used as a trailer, so I don't know what year it was, but I also bought a '52 F-3, and both boxes had oblong inner wheel wells. All of the '48-50 boxes I've had, had round inner wheels wells. It could have just be that the trucks were built at different plants and they used different stamping, I don't know. I thought I'd give you guys a hard time.

What trim do you need? I'm working on 52 F-3, but in my parts gathering I have collected some 51 pieces. Send me a PM

learn something new everyday! I didn't know the longer boxes didn't change .. I will probably talk to the farmer late next week at earliest, I want to take them a courtesy copy of the boundary survey I'm preparing on one of the parcels they sold off to my client, good pr and an excuse to run into them again... They had a few other relics as well...

The express bed and rear fenders are pretty sought after because they were prone to rust and most were beat to unusable condition. Even though those rear fenders are banged up they don't look rusty and could likely be brought back and reused. JMO

Are those rear fenders different than the regular F-1 fenders? BobJ mentions the "Oblong inner wheel wells" but I guess I didn't quite understand what he meant, are the fenders longer?
well the bed sides looked pretty rusty and the fenders look pretty beat! I didn't take a real close look though since i didn't want ot annoy the guy.
thanks

I guess it depends on what part of the country you're in.

I bought this 52 F3 for $300 and stripped the 5 Star Extra cab parts from it. The truck was in relatively good restorable condition with most of the rust being in the bed. After I stripped the parts, I couldn't bring myself to tear it apart further and part it out. I probably would have made more $$ that way, but I didn't feel like spending a few days grinding off the rusted bolts. It sat for sale for a few months until some guy came along and bought it for $300. I later saw it for sale in the same spot where I towed it to for him. When I drove by a month later, it was gone. So, either he resold it or scrapped. I hope that it wasn't the latter. The truck still had some very nice parts.
