Quality Long-Tube Headers for SD w/ 5.4L Engine

Ok guys, I know that there are many of you who have a F250 or F350 with the 5.4L engine and would like to have access to a set of high quality long-tube or Tri-Y headers, IF they were available. Well, now is your chance to let a quality company like "Doug Thorley Headers" (DTH) know that you are serious about supporting this new product! I recently contacted DTH and inquired about these sought after long-tube headers and stated the following:

"Hey Guys

I’m a proud owner of a 2005 F350 4x4 with 5.4L 3V engine. Many of us desire more HP/TQ from our engines and are desperate for high quality long tube (or Tri-Y) headers. I am a member of Ford Truck Enthusiast forum and know that there are many who would purchase these long tube headers, if they were available. More people are purchasing the 5.4L due to high fuel costs so the market is expanding.

Would you be interested in allowing me to post a thread regarding the potential manufacturing of long tube headers for our application to see what kind of response I receive? If you were to manufacture these long tube headers, you would have 100% of the market share as there are no other competitors.

Let me know if you are interested in posting the thread to determine the FTE member’s response. Thank you!"

Within 24-hours, DTH's Sales Manager, Nick Thompson, stated the following:

"Andrew

We are always looking for new avenues to follow. Yes definitely post a thread on headers for this truck. When you do so please email me the link to it.

Thanks
Nick"

So, post up if you are interested in supporting (ie: purchasing) a set of high quality long-tube or Tri-Y headers from DTH. Hopefully then, we can realize the potential of our 5.4L engines!

Well, I'm not in the market right now, but I would certainly be interested in a good set of headers for the 5.4L if they were priced right.

I would also be interested in a good replacement y-pipe that was clamp-in instead of weld-in.

Maybe DTH could offer a package deal that was the headers and y-pipe that attached to the factory exhaust. A cat-forward kit I guess

The purpose of this thread is to provide DTH with feedback from FTE members who want more options for their SD's with 5.4L engines. The more FTE members that post a response, the more likely we are to see these desired products on the market. No one is taking orders at DTH... yet!

The y-pipe is something that I had not considered but is a great idea as an alternate part. Thanks for posting up!

From looking at DTH's website, I'd say they will be in the $700 - $900 range. DTH cost more because of the high quality. Here is a pic of the Tri-Y headers for a 1996-1997 F250/F350 with 460 engine. Price: $901.00 msrp.

Glad to hear it! I think that there are a lot of 2008/2009 SD's out there with the 5.4L because of the rising fuel costs during the past few years.

Thats practically all our dealership has (Anchorage, Alaska). I went looking for a V10 but they had zero in CrewCab. Just about every 09 Crew they had was a 5.4L, they had a few PSD and V10 but most of em were XL work trucks.

That is very interesting... the opposite of truck offerings here in the South. The vast majority if Super Cab and Crew Cab trucks are diesel in North Carolina. What do you think is the reason for the popularity of the 5.4L in Alaska?

I have been looking into headers and replacing the factory y-pipe for true duals with an h-pipe. would definitely be interested in their headers if they made a set.

i've been looking at getting headers for my 2004 F-250. i put a gibson cat-back on and it sounds good. i want to put headers on cause i heard you get more power and improved gas mileage. i just don't know what the difference between them is... tri-y, shorty, long tube...confusing to me cause i don't know much about it...could someone please explain and let me know what the best set-up would be. and what's the deal with changing the y pipe? that help as well?
