1999 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew XLT
1999 Ford F350 V10 purchased in 2000 with 94,000 miles. I was told it was used to run a pipe line between US and Canada. I currently have 165,000 miles on it. Great truck. No major major repairs. Recently replaced all 10 COPs (AC Delco). It runs much smoother now. Just purchased a DB started from Amazon and plan to replace it this weekend if not to cold. Have a diesal 2012 F350 King Ranch for my back up. Love both trucks.

bought my 2008 with 222,000 on it back in 2011. Had a bad roller rocker so I pulled the valve cover off. perfectly clean inside (thanks to the previous owner). I have only put 11,000 on it in the last 3 years so it is up to 233,000. Sounds silky smooth like the day it rolled off the showroom floor. I love my V10.

Broke a rocker about 20k ago, it's chewing through oil so I'm going to do a few things - including putting a catch can int the PCV line to see how much is running through the intake
I was going to donate it for tax, but my son loves it
So I'm dumping money into it to keep it alive
Right now I'm getting a compression test done , but 6 plugs split so the mechanic is extracting split cases
Broke a rocker about 20k ago, it's chewing through oil so I'm going to do a few things - including putting a catch can int the PCV line to see how much is running through the intake

1999, F350 SD, V10, 4X4, DRW, Auto T, 3.73 gears, Super cab, long bed, 5 Star for 91 oct. Tune. Just passed 386,5xx on the clock. Trouble free engine and trany. Change oil every 3.K religiously and have the trany flushed every 50K. plugs changed every 100K or sooner 2X's. Replaced coils at about 160K and fan belt at 300K. I have pulled heavy 5r's all over the country.

May be your air/fuel ratio has been affected by an air leak somewhere in the system in order to trigger those error codes . Some suggestions;
1-Be sure to check the rubber elbows on all the plastic vacuum lines - Especially the 90-degree PCV hose end @ throttle body.
2-Check to make sure the MAF sensor's rubber-grommet on the bottom of the air-filter housing is in place. It seals the MAF wiring to the filter housing. I've seen them pulled out when people have changed the air- filter. If it's not sealed you have air by-passing the MAF and that can lead to the codes you have.

I have a 2000 with 165,000. Used for towing toys, trailers for work(sometimes massively overloaded), bikes,commuting,everything.Owned it since '03. Had some coil pack issues. Also have problem right now. I LOVE MY V10. And I will fix it and get another 165,000 out of her!

I am having an issue with finding the cause of this problem, hoping someone can give me a logical method of eliminating possible causes.
THE STORY: Truck was down for leaf spring replacement for about two weeks. Upon starting the motor bobbled a bit before smoothing out , figured it was from sitting. On my way home from work ,I could not get above 1500 rpm. 45 mph on the shoulder for about 25 miles. Check engine light came on. Reader shows P0171 and P0174, lean in bank 1&2.
THE PROBLEM: Truck will start and idle around 800 rpm. As soon as throttle is applied , the motor flat lines and eventually will stall. I sprayed cab cleaner everywhere looking for vacuum leaks. Found none. Did replace the vac hose under the throttle body because it felt spongey. Had a buddy help me out, he unplugged the MAF sensor. The truck responded almost normally(rpms came up when throttle applied) . So I replaced the MAF sensor for $200. Plugged it in, SAME PROBLEM.
THE QUESTION: ANY IDEAS?

Mine is a 2valve (07 econoline) and it's about 235,000.
High mileage has its risks regarding engine/driveline wear or failure. But I think the bigger risks are regarding the vehicle as a whole.
Rust, rubber bushings, hoses, brake lines, electric motors (fuel pump, HVAC blower, window motors, starter, alternator), electrical gremlins... There's thousands of opportunities for failure on high mileage OR high age vehicles.
Engine longevity is important, but WAAAAAY down the list of potential problems.

You are on the money Im50Fast, and I have had to deal with a rust issue on the front of the roof, mostly from rock dings over the past 16 years, but in my very strict preventive maintenance schedule, I have (unlike some/most?) replaced most rubber/bushings, one alternator, a few batteries, 1 window motor, repaired 4 bad lock motors (the resistor elimination mod), the left front hub because the FORD dealer forgot to put in the yellow o-ring and water destroyed the hub, 2 spark plug changes (one wasn't really needed) and I just replaced all of the COP's with MSD coils. I just had the tranny rebuilt but only because of normal wear limits (I got a 2 year 25K mile warranty). Luckily I have had no hose rot issues, brake line issues, electrical issues, body problems or brake component issues. My list of near future repairs/maintenance items is small, Spring Bushings (maybe), Shocks, replace leaking evaporator core (UGH!). I don't know if it's the South Florida climate, but my truck still looks almost brand new including the interior, yet I have seen some from other parts of the country that were eaten up by road salt, etc. I consider myself lucky to have one of the first SD V-10's built & shipped to Florida and have had no major issues. The engine still runs strong and no leaks! I attribute that to Mobil 1 Synth 5W-30 since day 1 along with no severe abuse (i.e. truck street racing!).

I'd say you have more than half the life left. The family farm truck(99 v-10) has 204,000 on it and never let the engine warm up just take off in the winter with some heavy loads on the hitch and it hasnt had a engine repair yet other than a set of plugs. And my personal 04 has 92,000 and runs like a champ. I'm sure you will find a lot of people with 300K+ miles out there somewhere they may not have the time to post on fte but i know these engines and take on real beating!!!!!! we ran the farm truck on more than a few oil changes in the 20,000 mile intervals due to lack of communication and such. sometimes you just feel sorry for it but it still keeps going!!!!
