aftermarket sound system

I want to put an aftermarket system in my truck. How do you install an amp in the trucks 24 volt system? Do I need something to step it down to 12?

are you personally going to put it in yourself or are you getting someone who does it for a living? I got a local store to do mine...but it doesn't look complicated...all you do is hook a wire that tells it when to turn on to the same wire that tells the radio to turn on when the key is turned...how large a system are you wanting?

I have been in the business for a long time, and our trucks dont have a 24 volt system. 14.4 at most while running, which is prime voltage for maximum amp output. You will have no problem having yourself or a shop install you a Headunit, Speakers, Amps, Sub & whatever else you can imagine. Have Fun!

Just one 10 w/amp and an amp going to my four speakers. Have you had any problems with your system killing your battery? Ive heard if you pull off one battery the alternator overcharges the other one and kills it?

Don't most diesels run off 24 volts? Or is that only for startup?

Yeah, you'll have to let me know how that dynamat works out for you and let me know if its worth it. Was that stuff expensive?

Our trucks have two batteries yes. But do not run on 24 volts. It is a 12 volt system. The batteries are run in either parallel or series. One of which doubles the voltage and the other just boosts the amps. For the life of me I can't remember which one is which right now but, I can tell you that we run at 12 volts.

UPDATE***Okay. Our batteries are run in Parallel. That means that they are wired so that we boost up our available power but not the voltage. You can hook up any standard vehicle amplifier to your truck and not have any power problems at all. I recommend having an inline fuse though for the power. There are simple diagrams all over the web. If you need help finding one, message me and I will track one down for your application and send you the link.

In line fuses are a must, i always go one step further and put in a 100amp circuit breaker, that way if it is installed correctly you wont spend bunches of money replacing the newer ANL fuses. Then if it is not correctly installed you just reset the breaker just like a house.
